Michael's Story

Before Michael Fedor wrote about the dark corridors of power, he walked them. An award-winning thriller author, Fedor's stories blur the line between tomorrow's headlines and dystopian prophecy.

His debut novel, What It Takes to Kill a Bull Moose—finalist for the Storytrade Award and winner of the PenCraft Award for Best Suspense/Thriller—was praised for its high-stakes storytelling and chillingly plausible vision of America's future.

Through the Bull Moose Trilogy (What It Takes to Kill a Bull Moose, Tree of Liberty, and The Nine-Hour President), Fedor delivers page-turning suspense in the tradition of Brad Meltzer, Vince Flynn, and Daniel Silva, while weaving in the thought-provoking depth of Margaret Atwood and George Orwell.

A strategist and educator, Fedor draws on firsthand experience inside the machinery of politics to craft thrillers that feel terrifyingly authentic. His books invite readers to ask not just what if?—but what now?

When he isn't writing, Michael speaks and consults on leadership, storytelling, and the future of democracy. He lives in Pennsylvania with his family.

Declassified: The Full Story

How a political operative became a political thriller author.

Political fiction author Michael Fedor brings 20 years of political organizing and storytelling experience to write for lovers of suspense, thrillers, and even political fantasy. Like a Jane Goodall of modern politics, Michael uses his observations and experiences in the wild, wooly worlds of Washington, DC, and state capitols to tell captivating stories of power, politics, and the human condition. His style makes his novels fast-paced and deliciously thrilling. His meticulous research ensures each story is terrifyingly plausible. Readers will wonder where the lines of real-life end and political fantasy begin, especially with his debut series Bull Moose.

Operative File

5 campaigns as a candidate. 3 victories.

20 years inside the political machine — from local dogcatcher races to presidential campaigns.

“The stories are fiction. The experience is not.”

Michael left the classroom over 20 years ago to work in politics. Working for candidates from Dogcatcher to President, Michael gained an up-close view of the personal costs of pursuing power. A multi-year candidate himself, he won 3 of the 5 offices he sought before hanging up his “running shoes” for good in 2020.

Finally heeding advice to “seize the day,” Michael dusted off a novel he wrote but never published in 2004. The first book in a new award-winning political thriller series, What It Takes to Kill a Bull Moose (Book 1), released June 2024. The sequel released November 5, 2024, and the trilogy concluded with The Nine-Hour President in 2025.

Michael earned both master's and bachelor's degrees from Penn State University. Like the main character of Bull Moose, Michael is an avid outdoorsman, a voracious reader, and a student of history. Michael remains undefeated at pub trivia.
