The debut novel by American author Michael Fedor – What It Takes to Kill a Bull Moose – received two awards for fiction by the International Firebird Book Awards sponsored by Speak Up Talk Radio.

The novel received the 2024 honor from judges in two categories – Speculative Fiction and Political Thriller Fiction.

“This book has been part of my heart since 2004,” said author Michael Fedor. “It was a dream come true to see it published after 20 years, but now, to be recognized with an award for fiction is just an honor. I am humbled by the award for this book, which I hope more than anything people will find to be a compelling and thrilling read.”

Two judges in each category chose to bestow awards on nominated books in more than twenty categories, including historical fiction, speculative fiction, Christian fiction, political thrillers, suspense, young adult literature, and nonfiction.

The International Firebird Book Award is sponsored by Speak Up Talk Radio and founder Patricia (Pat) J. Rullo.

Pat Rullo is an author, national radio talk show host, and sought-after speaker.  In 2012, Pat teamed up with Salem Media Group to produce a radio talk show based on her book Speak Up and Stay Alive, the patient advocate hospital survival guide. The radio program was the first nationally syndicated show to address patient safety and the patient experience. It is heard on stations throughout the country via satellite as well as iHeart Radio and 50 additional online venues.

Published on June 18, 2024, What It Takes to Kill a Bull Moose follows the U.S. presidential election of 2044, in which a deeply divided America rocked by economic hardship and political violence navigates an election with striking similarities to 2024.

“History may not repeat, but it sure does rhyme,” warns one of the novel’s central characters.

From the start of the novel, Former U.S. Senator Jackson Piper is recruited to return from his self-imposed political exile to stop incumbent President Russell Warner from apparently rigging his reelection. Warner has help from a wealthy benefactor, colluding political parties, and A.I. run amuck. The only way to overcome a tarpit of corruption, Piper and his allies resurrect the long-forgotten Bull Moose Party of Teddy Roosevelt with a platform of reforming America.

Just as Piper appears to be igniting a spark of belief and unity among the nation’s people, he realizes he is in a fight for survival against heinous assaults on his character, an international interference plot, threats of assassination, and possibly even the Curse of Tippecanoe.

Bull Moose is available in print from Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and directly from the author via Shop.MichaelFedorBooks.com. The novel is the first in a new political thriller series – Bull Moose. Book 2, Tree of Liberty, is scheduled for release on November 3, 2024, just days before the U.S. presidential election. It is available for preorder now on Amazon and Apple Books.

Bull Moose Book 1 has also been nominated in 2024 for an American Fiction Award, Story Trade Book Award, PenCraft Book Award, and North Street Book Prize. Those awards will be announced throughout the summer.
