Presidential March Madness 2024: Basketball and Fiction Fusion

The 2024 NCAA March Madness Tournament is less than a month away. For the 2024 presidential election, it seems like the nominees are already known (for now). It is already full of chaos and madness.

So, what’s the fusion recipe of basketball and politics?

Why should college basketball have all the fun? What about us #bookaddicts and #fiction lovers? Especially the subset who are news junkies and political fanatics? Surely we need something to cheer for as well since this year’s Super Tuesday is going to be anything BUT super?

You’re in luck! I’ve invented a fun way to watch the NCAA basketball tournament AND get excited about the release of a political thriller novel that takes place during a highly consequential Presidential election with a lot less certainty than 2024.

Today, I’m launching the Presidential March Madness Bracket Challenge!

Commander-in-Chief March Madness Bracket Challenge features fictional presidents (and presidencies) from television, movies, streaming, books, and comics that you will nominate. They will be competing for the 2024 Title of Mightiest President!

HUNDREDS OF PRESIDENTS TO CHOOSE FROM

How does your favorite (or least favorite) fictional President of the United States land on the bracket?

Just nominate him or her using the survey below or via a comment to this post. No actual Presidents, please! However, we will accept actual historical figures who enjoyed a fictional presidency via a work of literature or media as nominees.

Be sure to indicate the President’s name, the title of the major work in which they appeared, and the specific episode or edition if appropriate so I can track down an image of your contender. If you want to include the actor or actress’s name, even better.

Nominations will be open until Thursday, March 14 at 12:00 pm. I will take all the nominees and compose 1 master bracket to be revealed on Selection Sunday, March 17.

How Does the Contest Work?

The top 64 Presidents nominated by March 17 will enter the bracket challenge. Each President will be assigned a ranking and a region on the Commander-In-Chief bracket.

The tournament begins a week later on March 24. Based on the actual Men’s NCAA tournament results, each Commander-in-Chief will advance to the next round or be eliminated.

For example, let’s say President Josiah Bartlet is ranked #1 and plays #16 ranked President Gorgon Shumway in the Television Region, which corresponds to the East Region. If the #16 team in the East Region upsets #1, then Shumway moves on to the next round. If, in the real basketball tournament, #1 prevails in the East region, then Bartlet would move on. And so on and so on.

We will accept up to 5,000 brackets in total for the 2024 sweepstakes. Brackets can begin to be created on Selection Sunday, March 17. All brackets must be submitted by the deadline on March 24.

*The entered bracket that most accurately matches the final actual bracket results, which will be based on the placements of the Presidents linked to the NCAA Tournament 2024 results.

**The second most accurate bracket overall will be the second-place finisher. Up to 4 prizes could be awarded in the event of a tie. If more than 4 brackets were to tie, four (4) would be chosen via a random draw among the tying entries.
